Privacy Policy

Universal Bites is a free iOS app created by Isaac Shough that helps you discover, track, and rate food and drinks at Universal Orlando Resort events, including Mardi Gras and Halloween Horror Nights. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how you can control it.

What We Collect

We collect a limited amount of information to make the app work and improve over time:

• Usage data — which screens you visit and how long you spend in the app, collected anonymously to help us understand how people use Universal Bites.
• Location data — used only to power the interactive park map and show you nearby food vendors. Location is never stored or shared beyond this purpose.
• Aggregate item tracking signals — we receive anonymized, aggregate data about which menu items are being wished for, tried, or favorited across all users. This is used to surface trending and popular items in the app. This data is never linked to you individually.
• Device information — your device type and operating system version, used for crash reporting and compatibility.

We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal identifying information unless you contact us directly for support. Individual activity (your specific Wish List, Tried It, and Favorites) is not associated with your identity and is not accessible to us.

Your Tracking Data & iCloud Sync

When you mark items as Wish List, Tried It, or Favorite, add personal ratings, or build your event history, that data is stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. This means:

• Your personal tracking data belongs to you and lives in your iCloud — your individual history is not linked to your identity and we cannot access it.
• Anonymized signals (e.g., that an item was marked as a favorite) may be sent to us in aggregate form to help surface what's trending across the app.
• It syncs automatically across all your Apple devices signed in to the same iCloud account.
• You can delete it at any time through your iPhone's iCloud settings under iCloud → Manage Storage.
• Past event data is preserved in iCloud so you can always go back and review previous events.

How We Use Your Information

• To show you the interactive park map and nearby vendor information
• To surface trending and popular items based on anonymous, aggregate activity across all users
• To improve the app's performance and fix issues
• To respond to support requests you send us directly

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.

Third-Party Services

Universal Bites uses the following third-party services:

• Apple iCloud / CloudKit — stores your personal tracking data. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Apple App Store — handles app distribution and purchases. Governed by Apple's Terms and Privacy Policy.
• Analytics provider — we use anonymous, aggregated analytics to understand app usage patterns. No personally identifiable information is shared.

We may be required to share your information if required by law, to comply with a legal process, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Your Choices

• Location access — you can turn off location permissions for Universal Bites at any time in your iPhone Settings. The map feature will still work, but it won't show your position.
• iCloud sync — you can disable iCloud for Universal Bites in Settings → your name → iCloud. Your data will remain on-device only.
• Delete your data — uninstalling the app removes it from your device. To delete your iCloud data, go to Settings → iCloud → Manage Storage → Universal Bites. Because aggregate tracking signals are not linked to your identity, they cannot be individually deleted, but you can contact us at support@universalbites.app with any privacy questions.

Children

Universal Bites is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app requires an Apple ID, which has its own age verification. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support request, please contact us and we'll remove it promptly.

Security

Your personal tracking data is protected by iCloud's built-in encryption. Community ratings and usage analytics are transmitted securely over HTTPS. We take reasonable steps to protect any information we handle.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
